Are You A Visual Learner??

According to statistics, 65% of us are visual learners. Yes, that is right. We need to see things vs hearing them. So in school, it was more effective for us to have things written on the board or instructions on a piece of paper.

This type of learning style also affects our organizing style. I know this to be true, since I am a visual learner as well. Here are some tips to help you get organized.

  1. You need to see things. Storage should be in clear bins that are labeled.

  2. You should not over crowd drawers and limit the categories in them. Again, you need to be able to see what you have.

  3. Pantry shelves should be labeled.

  4. If someone is trying to explain a system to you, ask them to print it out. We are much better when we can see the solution vs having to imagine or picture it.

  5. You need consistant systems that don’t change.

  6. A large desk or wall calendar is also helpful.

  7. Having “to do” or “checklists” help you function on a daily basis.

Being a visual learner, I have designed my systems around the way I learn or see things. I am not a fan of basket storage. The only thing that I have stored in baskets are scarves and gloves. I designed an open shelving system in my closet, so I can see my folded clothes. I limit the number of categories, I have in drawers.

So embrace your learning style and make it work for you!! Once you accept your style, you can determine what systems will work and won’t work in your home or office!
